ModMountains Quilt - Part 1

I adored the modern, clean lines of the SuzyQuilts ModMountains quilt pattern as soon as I saw it. I had some linen fabric from Scribbly Gum Quilts to try out and a bunch of dark neutrals and some spare FQs that didn’t make it into my Dear Jane fabric pile. I love both mountains, and a quick quilt, so why not?

I cut this quilt out on NYE 2021 and got to piecing the blocks right away. It was a fun technique, cutting wonky triangles and adding sides to them. They were trimmed down and pieced in rows. I pretty much followed the pattern for the placement of the mountains in the rows. I didn’t intend for the vertical row of yellows, but I think it makes a nice focal point.

I had a few triangles left over so I decided to put them together to make a small lumbar pillow for my couch. This quilt is intended to be a snuggle quilt for the couch. I don’t always like matchy-matchy, but I also wanted to test out my quilting idea on a small piece.

My gut tells me the quilting should be simple, random, non-crossing lines that flow horizontally across the quilt. I know I can quilt much more fancy designs, but restraint is also a learned skill.
